Just for a moment

And just for a moment
You made me feel whole

As you told me bedtime stories,
the grown up kind
The kind where loves makes monsters disappear
And futures built on shards of glass
Somehow never shatter…
or even pierce your skin

But stories told at sunset
are forgotten as the sky gets dark

Like it always does

And just for a moment,
you broke me
into a thousand pieces

I will no longer listen to bedtime stories
I will instead
go out
alone
into the night

Searching for the stars
that might obscure the darkness

If only just a little

And then,
maybe,
Just for a moment

Those stars might just shine bright enough
To find some of the many pieces
That you so casually threw away
